  You know I think your full mouth rehab tape should go for almost twice as much as what you are selling it for. Because the rewards are high and the price of a full mouth case is not even a fraction of what the tape goes for. I know you may try to keep the cost down for the dentists but the reality is, a 300 hundred dollar investment to do a full mouth case which will bring in approximately 25- 32k.   Lorin has created a single video that covers a complete cosmetic rehab case from start to finish. It's like being able to look over his shoulder... but BETTER! The video graphy is excellent. The narration is great, too. Lorin's gregarious personality comes through in his narration. It's obvious he's having fun. The video is divided up into easily digestible segments that follow the sequence of treatment. It breaks the whole process into bite-sized chunks, making it easier to understand and sort out in your mind. It confirms that every big case is a collection of smaller cases. You just have to know how to break it down, put it back together, and then coordinate it so that it all works. The case covered in this video is perfect because it involves several of the common cosmetic challenges all wrapped up into one patient. The final result is dramatic. I enjoyed it and I'm sure I'll be watching it over and over as time goes on. Expose yourselves to a really fun side of dentistry. Imagine if you even did just a few of these cases a year!"

  I totally agree with Mike's review of Dr. Berland's DVD. Absolutely excellent! I recently purchased it and I've picked up lots of gems I can use. Even for just long span bridges, etc....the info in this DVD is excellent. I especially love Dr. Berland's "CHOCOLATE SWIRL TECHNIQUE"...and I definitely plan on implementing that when I do my bite registrations from now on!! Anyone interested in cosmetic dentistry...who doesn't wanna spend the tons of money {yet} on a course...should view this video. It has definitely whet my appetite for further study!

  Lorin's video ROCKS! It creates a new standard in dental videography, and defines the term "step-by-step." The accompanying manual seemingly reduces what is true artistry to something almost like a paint-by-numbers system. The video was so detailed I felt like I was doing the case myself. Since the case was a difficult one, all kinds of nuances are demonstrated that make anyone a better dentist, even me, an endodontist.

Lorin Berland, a well-known cosmetic dentist and educator, operates his "dental-spa" out of Dallas, Texas. His recently released video, The Latest & Greatest in Cosmetic Dentistry is just what the title says it is; a plethora of techniques, materials and methods showcased within a two appointment full mouth rehabilitation. When I say "full mouth" I mean full mouth; twenty-six teeth are restored before your very eyes from start to finish. Thank God for expedient editing. We're privy to the core material only. The video runs about 90 minutes.

If you're a skier you may have run across the term "Extreme Skiing". It refers to that aspect of skiing that involves jumping off cliffs, skiing wild ungroomed terrain or even being ushered to the unexplored side of a mountain via helicopter. What does this have to do with Dr. Berland's case presentation? Well, in many respects, you're looking at Extreme Dentistry. That is, restoring a case in this manner is only for the highly confident practitioner that has many cosmetic cases already under his belt and is privileged enough to work with several assistants. In other words, "don't try this at home without the supervision of an adult" might need to be stenciled on the box cover.

That said, I very much enjoyed Dr. Berland's video. In fact, I watched it three times and found that each time, I gleaned another gem to take back to my own toils. The Latest and Greatest is so crammed with valuable information, that you quickly forgive Dr. Berland for taking on such an Extreme Example of cosmetics to make his points.

The "story" begins with a lovely young Texan woman in need of a smile makeover. We first listen to her plight via video interview and are then ushered through her work up that begins with digital imaging and simulation via Digital Dentist, which is carried over to a full mock up of the expected result. Dr. Berland, seated somewhat like the commentator in Masterpiece Theatre, periodically comments in the first person on the subject at hand, sharing with us his views on the importance of fully understanding where you are going with the case before ever picking up a handpiece. Great advice we're sure! Models, Xrays and diagnostic wax-up are explored.

When the prelims are out of the way, it's off to the races. We find ourselves neatly perched on Dr. Berland's shoulder observing him slice and dice his way through two entire arches of dental substrate with efficiency and precision. He first preps, impresses and temporizes the mandible and then hops upstairs to the maxilla. All the while he maintains an accurate vertical dimension with what he terms as the "chocolate swirl technique". He never loses his bearings. I was fortunate enough to put this technique to immediate use on a full maxillary rehab of my own just days after viewing the video. Thanks, Lorin! When the smoke has cleared, an assortment of Captek bridges and All-Porcelain restorations of all shapes and sizes, including onlays, crowns and veneers are neatly placed, creating a stunning new dentition.

I like knowing just what make and model gizmo I'm looking at, not to mention which materials are being used. And make no mistake, products and materials abound. From electric handpieces to Berland designed Shofu cutting and finishing kits, we're witness to a parade of the latest and greatest.
